Clinical Psychologist

Dr Sylvia Michaeel is a British trained Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is also a BABCP accredited CBT Therapist, with over ten years of experience of working in the NHS and charity sector. She is currently working in the NHS within a specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, providing psychological therapy to young people and their families.

Dr Michaeel completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London and continued her training at City University, obtaining a Graduate Certificate in Counselling Psychology. She continued her training in Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions at University College London, then completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies at Royal Holloway, University of London. She was then awarded her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hertfordshire in 2021.

Issues/Problems of Specialisation

Dr Michaeel’s approach to treatment is one that is strengths-based, and one that draws on the therapeutic relationship alongside various therapeutic models to provide evidence-based interventions tailored to individual needs and therapy goals. Working integratively, the models she adopts include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Systemic and Narrative ideas. She is currently training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
