Edwin Tan

MBACP

Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Edwin is a counsellor and psychotherapist, and is a Registered Member with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

Edwin comes from a multi-cultural background; he was born in Singapore where he lived, and worked and in New York City, and now in London. A multi-linguist who is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, his formative experiences across cultures and languages were sometimes challenging, always enlightening, and he was inspired to explore human nature and behaviour to gain deeper insight and understanding of what it means to be alive and to live well in today’s world.

Having spent several years as a volunteer with the Samaritans, where he worked extensively with people in crises suffering from suicidal ideation, physical ailments and mental illness, Edwin gravitated toward a view of holistic wellness – wherein a person’s mind, body and soul are integral aspects of his or her sense of self – and chose to pursue transpersonal psychology. He trained in Psychosynthesis Counselling at The Psychosynthesis Trust, which is accredited by the BACP.

Today, Edwin sees clients privately, as well as within the National Health Service (NHS), and works with instructors in the training of new counsellors and psychotherapists.

Edwin also has a diverse international professional background, including periods as a lawyer, an editor of best-selling business and non-fiction books, and a consultant in corporate advisory and finance, human resources and talent development, UK local government and the charity sector, all of which have afforded him first-hand knowledge of the stresses and demands of modern living, as well as deep empathy for individuals who face specific challenges, or who struggle to find real meaning in the every day.
